I’m having to make lifestyle changes which is eating into my online time. You understand, of course, that I say this after just having spent Saturday at a family picnic where there was absolutely nothing on the menu that I’m supposed to eat. Scratch that. The bean salad I took as a covered dish is actually on the list of healthy items I should be eating. I wouldn’t get too close to me today. Nuff said?
Since I live where it snows for a goodly part of the year, buying organic means I may have to find a second job. What I’m doing to offset this is buying what I can now, then I’m prepping it for freezing and using my new vacuum sealer to hopefully give it longer shelf life.
This is working for the berries that are ready for harvest now. I’m going to have homegrown strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries all winter long. I just wish I could say I’ll be baking pies with them. *sigh* I’m supposed to give up simple carbs in favor of complex carbs.
Berries, au natural, are complex carbs. When you pop them into pies, cakes and other sweet treats they become simple. What I’m allowed to use them for is snacks and I can add them to my morning bowl of cooked steel cut oatmeal. Of course, no sugar can be added.
Between the job, the frequent shopping for the produce, the extra prep work I have to do when cooking or preserving and the housework and laundry that needs doing, I’m also supposed to find 5 hours a week for exercise. I don’t think the doctor meant fingers on keyboard exercising.
I’d make a Maynard G. Krebs reference here, but only us old fogeys would understand it. Ah, hell. I’m gonna do it anyways. “WORK!” It’s something I’m doing a lot of AND it’s a damn 4 letter word. Trust me on that.
