Yesterday , according to Twitter I had over 38,000 tweets…I really didn’t but that’s what it said…and today I have just over 12,000 ( again wrong )…and for some reason I was following 2498 people yesterday and today I’m following 2497…hummmmm….I wonder where the other person went??? Maybe to Twitter limbo?
Well it’s better than the last time when Twitter unfollowed about 400 people I was following…gawd only knows how that happened.

This is one of the main reasons I rarely tweet anymore,  just far too many technical anomalies that make it annoying enough to not even bother tweeting.

So I guess this means that Twitter once again gets the dubious honor of getting the Award of it’s own Fail Whale…

Twitter may have millions of accounts, estimated at 32.1 million, but the vast majority of those accounts are inactive…

if you eliminate all the accounts that are inactive, accounts created and made less than two tweets…which is estimated at 55% of all accounts…

all the accounts that are in default or have become inactive or have only had a few posts/tweets…probably another 25% at least…

all the accounts that are marketing their own wares and have absolutely no interest in yours…another 15-18%

there’s probably about 2% left that are average joes looking to meet new people, make friends, and co-mingle.

That’s the market…approximately 700,000 twitters…still a substantial number, about the size of a small to medium City…but it’s a far cry from 32 million.

In April 09 Twitter had 32 million unique visitors, which amounts to about 1 million a day…probably most from those marketers and those 700,000 regular users I mentioned above…

the point is, since Twitter removed the ‘ all users ‘ tab and reduced everyone to seeing only those they follow, and since 70% or more of the people you follow and who follow you aren’t even worth following because they offer you nothing you want..

unless you’re a scammer or a marketing parasite that deals in trickery by hiding affiliate links or such…very few people can make a living off of Twitter.

Sure some do…and not all of them are spineless unethical scumbags…but unless you have access to that 700,000 ( which as I said you no longer do ) chances are don’t quit your day job.

It is however a great place to promote a book, a movie, and things like that…because these are things that appeal to virtually everyone in one way or another…in some respects it will even increase website traffic…

but…

don’t quit your day job.

Don’t believe the hype…don’t be gullible…if making some money off your account is your gig then all the more power to you…but please, don’t be an unethical dirtbag about it…

there’s enough of them already.

Note: to even get on this list a Twitter has to have at least 100,000 followers ( or very close to it ) and be following at least a 100,000 people  ( or very close to it ), and the difference between following to followers must be so small that they are virtually following everyone who follows them.

So if you’re looking for people who rank as twitter celebrities ( not necessarily the Hollywood type, but some might be ) who may be interested in what you have to say these are the twitters you need to add to your list.

You might be wondering about the 5 Stars ‘ ‘ beside many of them…well…for one thing they all follow me, so they have good taste…or at least a good sense of humor about them…but that’s not the only reason I highly recommend them…

none of the ‘ highly recommended ‘ on this list has ever spammed my DM box that I am aware of.

The ones not  ‘ highly recommended ‘  are such because I don’t know them…never spoke to them…have no idea who they are…so it’s impossible to recommend them.

All however have an extremely high followers to following ratio…the distance being almost negligible.

Best Twitters to Follow

Twitter needs to get their shit together…and fix the problems…not add more useless crap and fluff to play with.

Problems like :

following people you didn’t follow…I just unfollowed about a dozen more people I know I never followed…but somehow, magically, I was following them…

having people you are following magically become unfollowed…even though you didn’t unfollow them…recently, Twitter decided to unfollow a bunch of people I was following, including 32 who were on my Best Twitter list…luckily I found out and re-followed them…

being unable to unfavorite your favorites…although they seem to have fixed this…for now anyways…

downtime and slow page loads…

sent messages that don’t appear in my sent messages…

and I could go on…but I won’t…because they don’t listen anyways. In fact they said once in an article they don’t even read tweets directed at them.

I’ll continue to Tweet, but not because I like Twitter ( I don’t anymore ), and not because I’m willing to ignore the problems ( I’m not )…the only thing that will keep me coming back are the friends I’ve made.

Twitter offers nothing else of value beyond the friend’s I’ve met, for me anyways…all-in-all I’d rather play music on Blip.

I’m not interested in the least in joining any site that poses a serious security risk, has an incomplete or questionable privacy policy, has a terms of use that is also incomplete or questionable, any site that tells me I must join once I access their home page, or any site that requires a good deal of my time…

I already have my hands full with a full-time job, my kids ( single dad-meaning I do everything dad and mom does  ), several websites over 8 domains, my Twitter and Blips, and a registered charity I assist in the operation of…

so…inotherwords, my time is extremely limited…so even if I wanted to participate, even if they had good security, a perfect privacy policy and terms of service, and begged me to join, I wouldn’t be able to.

The only thing you are accomplishing by sending me these type of DM’s is distracting from the DM’s I do want to see and respond to.

In short…to wrap this up…and no offense intended…or should be implied…

STOP filling my DM box with this crap.

Twitter’s discussions with Microsoft and Google are being conducted separately and would allow each company to incorporate the 140-character messages, or “tweets,” that Twitter is known for into their Internet search results.
