6 Jun 1970   –   Christie   –   Yellow River – the Tremeloes turned this song down so Jeff Christie recorded it himself

30 Jan 1971   –   George Harrison   –   My Sweet Lord – George was successfully sued for plagiarism by the Chiffons for copying their song ‘ He’s so Fine ‘

6 Mar 1971   –   Mungo Jerry  –   Baby Jump – their 2nd and last number one

24 Jul 1971   –   T Rex  –   Get It On – was their 2nd of 4 number one hits in the UK, their first number one was ‘ Hot Love ‘

19 Feb 1972 – Chicory Tip – Son of my Father – the first number one hit to have a Moog Synthesiser

11 Mar 1972   –   Nilsson   –   Without You – this is a song about suicide, and ironically the  two members of Badfinger that wrote it committed suicide

17 Jun 1972   –   Don McLean   –   Vincent

9 Sep 1972   –   Slade   –   Mama Weer All Crazee Now

27 Jan 1973   –   Sweet   –   Blockbuster

3 Mar 1973   –   Slade   –   Cum On Feel The Noize – their 4th number one hit, a song later covered by Quiet Riot

19 May 1973   –   Wizzard   –   See My Baby Jive

17 Nov 1973   –   Gary Glitter   –   I Love You Love Me Love

26 Jan 1974   –   Mud   –   Tiger Feet

16 Mar 1974   –   Paper Lace   –   Billy Don’t Be A Hero

19 Oct 1974   –   Sweet Sensation   –   Sad Sweet Dreamer

28 Jun 1975   –   10 CC   –   I’m Not In Love – their 2nd number one

6 Sep 1975   –   Rod Stewart   –   Sailing – his third number one

15 Jan 1977   –   David Soul   –   Don’t Give Up On Us – most people remember him as Hutch from the TV show ‘ Starsky and Hutch ‘…but most people think he was an actor turned singer, when in fact he was a singer who turned actor

19 Feb 1977   –   Leo Sayer   –   When I Need You

8 Oct 1977   –   David Soul   –   Silver Lady – his 2nd and last number one, but he scored 5 songs in the top 12 in his career

13 May 1978  – Boney M  – Rivers Of Babylon

30 Sep 1978   –   John Travolta  & Olivia Newton John   –   Summer Nights

18 Nov 1978   –   Boomtown Rats   –   Rat Trap

3 Feb 1979   –   Blondie   –   Heart Of Glass
