The Ugly Ducklings

The Ugly Ducklings was a group out of Toronto’s Yorkville Village in 1965 and was instrumental in getting the Toronto scene noticed.

They released their first single, “Nothin'”, on the Yorkville label in 1966 and had their biggest hit with the song “Gaslight” in 1967, that went #1 in Toronto and other parts of eastern Canada. The song “Gaslight” however wasn’t a product of the group, it was recorded in New York utilizing Doc Severenson’s Tonight Show Band ( the NBC Orchestra ) and with only vocalist Dave Bingham present.
Due to their style Mick Jagger once proclaimed The Ugly Ducklings as “my favorite Canadian band”. The group has periodically re-grouped over the years.
